In 1929, Harvey Firestone purchased 1,000 acres of farmland on the outskirts of Akron, Ohio to provide space for churches, houses and schools for his employees and their families. Today the Firestone community is a historic landmark and one of golf’s most prestigious places, playing host to such greats as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Nieporte and Tiger Woods. The annual Bridgestone Invitational is played each year on Firestone’s three championship courses.
